You have no idea what’s going on in front of you right now. That’s not speaking poorly of you; it’s very literally how we built the system.0

We put something unlike us in front of us for examination purposes.

The world of perception is unlike us – what we are at the next level. It is so unlike what we are that it is meaningless to compare these sytems. It would be like comparing the electrical power grid with the software being used to view this presentations (likely an internet browser). While the systems do have subtle interactions with one another, the contextual operation of each system is unlike the other. As a third system unlike power grids and internet software, consider the orbital patterns of celestial bodies.

As much context, knowledge, information, and expertise one may have about the perceptual world, There simply is another frame of mind from which to view the PETs1 found here.2

That’s how far far out ACIM’s teachings can take you. It talks a lot about perception not being real, but more importantly, following its provided exercises and training allows one to experience being at that level of awareness.

0 - We have names for what’s going on in front of us, but simply because we’ve named these things, does not mean we know what they are. Moreover, I am asking that you to observe the phenomenon of life itself – the continuous stream of experience that comprises being. That we a) have named it, and b) can do it are obvious, but this mechanics/power/force/energy foundational to a state of life is largely taken for granted as unnecessary to consider. Here, we consider it.

1 - PETs: Persons, events, things, concepts

2 - From this frame of mind, all perceptual phenomena are seen as one thing. Can you see how the collapsing of all meanings within perception will lead do an entirely different experience than what can be found within perception?

I do not know the thing I am and therefore do not know what I am doing, where I am, or how to look upon the world or on myself. In this learning is salvation born. And what you are will tell you of Itself. - ACIM
